OUTLINE OF THE HISTORY OF SEIGOKAN AUSTRALIA
Date unknown Seigokan Australia was originally registered with Federation of Australian Karate Organisations (FAKO) in NSW by Cesar Pereira from Macau Seigokan. The club later folded due to Cesar Pereira's other commitments.
1981 APUKO was held in Austrália. One of the competing teams was from Hong Kong and consisted of mainly Seigokan members. Stephen Hockey from Karate Academy of Japan (Seiwakai goju ryu) invited them to train at the Ashfield hombu dojo. Being dissatisfied with KAJ, Stephen asked the Hong Kong team how to go about joining Seigokan. Correspondence then took place between Stephen Hockey and Kancho sensei Seigo Tada.
1982 The new Seigokan Australia starts operating. The founding members were: Stephen Hockey, John Novak, Mark Gooch, Mark Bebbington, Robert Jang, Leroy Oliverio, Barry Lilli, Adrian Kuszis and Alan Oxley.
1983 Kancho sensei Seigo Tada visits the new Seigokan Australia. He was accompanied by Murata shihan, Seki sensei and Nishimura sensei.
1984 Kancho again visits Australia and this time is accompanied by Murata shihan and Nishimura sensei.
1985 An Australian team consisting of Stephen Hockey, Barry Lilli, Alan Oxley, Russell Gray, Michelle Wilson, Chris Newman, Ross Ebeling, Steve Novak and Karen Hockey travel to Otsu, Japan to compete in the 40th Anniversary Seigokan Championship.
1986 WUKO 8 held in Australia. Kancho sensei and Okumura shihan visit.
1990 Seigokan Australia team members Alan Oxley, Russell Gray, Matt Parkin, Lina Galea and Brad Werner travel to Himeji to compete in the 45th Anniversary Championship.
1992 Stephen Hockey celebrates 20 years of karate training and 10 years as head of Seigokan Australia.
1995 Alan Oxley and Jennifer Sheedy attend the 50th Anniversary Championship.
1997 Kancho sensei Seigo Tada passes away.
2000 Stephen Hockey leaves Seigokan to join Patrick McCarthy's organisation. Alan Oxley becomes head of Seigokan Australia.
2003 Ichida shihan and Ono shihan visit Australia.
2005 Alan Oxley visit Seigokan Honbu Dojo in Himeji.
